Infinity Swimming hosting a March Break Maui Swim Camp

How would you like to spend March Break in Hawaii and not have to worry about missing any swim practice while you are away?  Well, Masters swim coaches Dale Robinson (former head coach of UBC Masters, current head coach of Canadian Dolphin Swim Club's Masters/Triathlon group) and Danielle Brault (head coach of Victoria Masters) are teaming up to deliver a Masters swim training camp on the Island of Maui from March 11-18, 2012.  All practices will be held at the spectacular Kihei Aquatic Centre in their beautiful outdoor pool.

Whether you are a competitive or recreational swimmer, this camp will provide you the opportunity to swim with like minded individuals (those who absolutely love the sport of swimming!) and to take part in quality coached and technically focused workouts designed to work all energy systems, all while being outside in one the most beautiful places on earth.  For the competitive swimmer, this will also be a perfect opportunity to give your training a boost and perfect your swimming skills in preparation for the BC Provincial Championships being held in Victoria, BC, this year (March 30-April 1, 2012), or for the Canadian Masters Swimming Championships, being held in Kelowna, BC, this year (May 18-21, 2012).

For more information regarding this camp, please make sure to download the camp information package file.  If you have any further questions, or would like to register, please don't hesitate to contact Dale Robinson at infinity.swimming@gmail.com.

The North Shore Swim Meet is cancelled due to low entries

Anyone who sent in funds will be contacted by the Meet Manager and have their funds returned or cheque shredded.

BC Senior Games & Masters Records

In early February, 2011 the following was posted on the SwimBC web site:
Competition Rules
On February 8, 2011, Swimming Canada announced that, as of that date, Masters Swimming Canada (MSC) rules shall be applied at all Masters meets sanctioned in Canada.  Therefore, as of February 8, 2011, all Masters Meets sanctioned by SwimBC /MSABC shall follow MSC rules. The rules are available here: http://mymsc.ca/Rules_en.jsp

In the past, MSABC has accepted provincial record applications for individual swims at the BC Senior Games. This is no longer the case now that SNC has approved the MSC rules of swimming that now must be used at all sanctioned masters swim meets in Canada. Record applications from the BC Senior Games cannot be considered because the Games do not meet the criteria for a sanctioned masters meet for the following reasons:
CMGR 2.1
All competitors shall be registered with MSC or as Masters with another National Federation affiliated with FINA and shall have attained 18 years of age on the first day of the competition to be eligible to compete.
CMGR 2.2
All competitors shall be registered with a registered Masters club or as an unattached swimmer with their Provincial Masters Organization.  Not all swimmers at the Games are registered with a club or with MSABC as unattached.
CMGR 7.1.1
All sanctioned competitions shall be open to all registered masters swimmers.  The Games are not open to masters swimmers younger than 55 and the Games have limits based on numbers per age group as well as allowing swim offs to determine competitors.
CMSW 12.1.2
Canadian records can only be established by a registered member who is registered with and competing for a Canadian Masters Club in a Masters meet sanctioned by MSC, another Masters organization, or FINA.  Games competitors are representing their zones rather than competing for a masters club or as an unattached masters swimmer.

Kidsport Swim-a-thon

On Saturday, July 9, the 3rd Annual Swim-a-thon will take place at the iconic Kitsilano outdoor pool to raise much needed funding for the Vancouver chapter of KidSport:  www.kidsportvancouver.ca

In previous years, the swim has been limited to the Fast Lane swim club and raised $10,000 for the 60-minute event with only about 40 swimmers participating. This year, a dedicated event team has been working hard since October to make the 2011 event spectacular. We believe we can raise considerably more by opening up the event to other local swim clubs, triathlon clubs, and anyone who enjoys getting their feet wet for a really great cause!

100% of donations go directly to local kids to help pay for equipment and registration fees for organized and individual sport. Many of these kids are being raised by single parents who simply cannot afford to get them involved in sport. In addition to fun, sport encourages our youth to develop a healthy lifestyle and discipline that will carry them into their adult lives as strong, confident individuals who will, in turn, give back to their communities.

MSABC members who are interested can find more information at the event site:

MSABC Relays for these 2011 Nationals

The 2011 Canadian Masters Swimming Championships will be held in Montreal from 20-23 May 2011. If you would like to be part of the MSBC relay teams in Montreal this year, please contact Danielle Brault at: daniellebrault@hotmail.com

Please indicate to Danielle which relays and strokes you are willing to swim. Swimmers should send the relay event numbers they are interested in, and their estimated 50/100 metre times along with their year of birth. Danielle will make up teams that include everyone. Relays are what Masters swimming is all about fun, fitness, and participation. Sign up today.

It is not possible right now to enter as MSBC. When entering a Vic Masters swimmer, they are automatically entered to swim for Vic Masters and can't be switched to swim for MSBC. The Nationals webmaster (Robyn Ouimet) said they are working on this glitch. In the meantime, she is suggesting to enter for our regular club and just make the change later once they have figured out a way around this problem.
